Who Doesn't Love Betty White? Besides Cloris Leachman?

The gauntlet has been thrown! Or at least the plastic dish-washing glove. Cloris Leachman, the eccentric 84-year-old who rode Dancing With The Stars to a comeback of Mario Lopez proportions, told a press conference on Tuesday that she had a hate-on for her Mary Tyler Moore Show co-star Betty White.

"I'm so sick of Betty White," she said while promoting her upcoming sitcom Raising Hope, Entertainment Weekly reports. "Never liked her." Reporters gasped. But apparently this was what is known in industry parlance as "a joke." Cloris clarified she was kidding, and plugged the upcoming Kristen Bell comedy You Again which co-stars both Cloris and Betty.

But I don't know that I totally believe this scary old lady. Sure, Betty has a history of good-natured ribbing with her co-stars (accepting an award from Sandra Bullock at the SAG Awards, she said, "Isn't it heartening to see how far a girl as plain as she is can go?"). But legends tell of a rivalry between Betty and Bea Arthur, and Cloris seems like a Bea Arthur type (that type being mean). I just hope they don't wind up ripping each others' wigs off. What am I saying, don't?
