Mel Savouring Precious Years Before Daughter Knows He's Awful

He's lost his job, his girl, the respect of the world, but one thing you can't take away from Mel is his good parenting (at least until the child-services investigation wraps).

Mel Gibson still sounds angry online (Radar posted new voice mail messages today, and, yup, still abusing women). But in real life, he's literally kissing babies. He spent quality time with Lucia, his nine-month-old baby, over the weekend at Mel's private traditionalist Catholic church, The Church of the Holy Family.

"[The chapel] is a safe place for them to be together, run around, have fun and play," a friend of Mel's told People. They were accompanied by a social worker, with conflicting reports explaining why. People says Mel invited a social worker to join them so, as a source close to Mel puts it, "Oksana couldn't lie." Radar reports the Department of Children and Family Services, who are investigating charges made by Oksana that Mel abused their daughter, thought it would help to have an independent witness on-hand.

So far Mel supporters are rallying that he is an awesome dad. "The Department of Children and Family Services believes Mel has a wonderful relationship with his infant daughter Lucia," someone tight with Mel, possibly Hitler's ghost, tells Radar. "They have a very healthy father-daughter relationship. He is very involved with her. Mel is a great father to her and this is why there have been no changes as far as his visits with her are concerned."

Mel met with police on Sunday to make the case that Oksana made those well-known tapes of him losing his mind to extort $15 million from him. He presented emails and text messages as evidence. He managed to avoid talking about Oksana's claims she was assaulted by invoking the fifth amendment, a.k.a. the Mark Fuhrman amendment.

All of this public hatred has Mel regretting leaving his wife of 29 years, the mother of his first seven children, Robyn. "Robyn kept him together," Mel's friend told Radar. Robyn has filed a sworn affidavit calling Mel a "wonderful" father who didn't ever abuse her physically. But she's not taking him back, right? RIGHT? She's an eligible single lady with millions in the bank. She could get a 70s Show cast member. Who needs Mel?
