Lindsay's German Interview: Translating The Translation

by Ryan Porter
When future prisonista Lindsay Lohan was supposed to be attending alcohol-education classes, she was in France giving this interview to German GQ. This is what was too important to wait.

Before Lindsay Lohan rekindled my love affair with schadenfreude by being sentenced to 90 days in jail, she was working hard to land covers of magazines around the world, even though the only thing she's promoting is her own media spin that she is not an out-of-control party monster (editor's note: she is).

While she was at Cannes, violating her probation by missing all of those alcohol education classes, she chatted with German GQ, an interview that has been helpfully translated by Crushable (via Gawker). For your convenience, Dramarama has translated the translation.

On The Price Of Fame: "I've changed my point of view in recent years. When I started working in the industry, I wanted to get to the very top--and I was painted as something completely different from what I really was. Nowadays in Hollywood it is so much more about celebrities and gossip, which can distract many great actors from their actual ability. The public comes to know so much about these people that it gets superimposed upon their work in movies. I love what I do, so I have to be able to handle it."

Translation: "You know that I know that you know I am so high right now I don't even know what I'm talking about, but let's just pretend for the sake of this article that my long history of creating drama is a cultural movement."

On Her Passion For The Medium Of Cinema:
"I like to tell stories that people can learn something from. And I like the concept of film: to put yourself in a dark room, hide from the world for a few hours, and discover the similarities about yourself and the screen. I love it so much that I certainly won't stop, even if circumstances change."

Translation:
"I like to tell stories about how important I am, and unfortunately, that requires making movies sometimes. And I like the concept of film: my face on a giant screen, people looking at me, wishing they were me. I love it so much that I will literally do anything that is offered me. Except for porn. Porn biopics? Sure."

On Being Misunderstood:
"I read these stories about things that have never happened, and then I get to hear, 'Oh, but you were so cute in The Parent Trap!'"

Translation:
"I read these stories, and I think, 'Did that happen?' Because so much of my life is just a complete blur. And then I get to hear, 'You were so cute in The Parent Trap!' and I think, 'yes! I was definitely in The Parent Trap!'"
