Vanessa Hudgens has a "mad obsession" with drawing on herself.

The 23-year-old actress was recently pictured with what was believed to be a tattoo on her foot reading, 'All you need is love', but she has now admitted the apparent inking was actually "fake" and a result of her love of doodling on her own body.

After being shown a picture of the tattoo in a magazine by chat show host Jay Leno, an embarrassed Vanessa explained: "It's fake. I have this mad obsession with drawing on myself, like, I cannot help it!

"I draw all over my hands, all over my arms, obviously my foot. It's just fun. It's hard to commit to a tattoo, like, I have a few, so, when you write on yourself it's not that much of a commitment."

However, the 'High School Musical' star - who is currently dating actor Austin Butler - had a butterfly etched on her neck last year.

She made the decision to have the beautiful insect inscribed on her body because she was named after the creature.

She has previously said: "It was very last minute, but I've actually wanted it for years. A butterfly landed on my mom's stomach a week before I was born and that's how I got my name, because Vanessa means butterfly - it's a Latin derivative."
