You are quite observant and quite right! When stylist Rachel Zoe started dressing Hollywood’s hottest a few years back, stars started shrinking and media took notice. Everyone began questioning Zoe’s influence over her tiny clients. Not that we’re blaming her, but there was a noticeable change in young Hollywood’s frame size at that time and a lot of people were pointing fingers at the stylist. It’s unfortunate how many people are directly affected by a celebrity’s lifestyle, but that’s the reality of celebrity culture today. Those in the public eye have a responsibility to their fans to be a positive role model. And more often than not, they let us down.
Thankfully, stars are now being praised for having a healthy body while those bordering on dangerously underweight are getting flack. It’s not helpful to ridicule women’s bodies whether they are small or large, as there could be an underlying issue we are not aware of present. Still, it’s encouraging for all women to see that larger, healthier women are nabbing top movie roles and selling records. Mischa Barton, who in the past looked rather waify has since put on weight. While some media outlets can’t seem to get over it and embrace her new body, she still landed a major role on an upcoming TV show. It just goes to show you that experience, and not size, can go along way. Once Hollywood fully embraces women of all shapes and sizes, it will be easier for the rest of us to follow suit.
Unfortunately, not all stars seem to understand that maintaining a healthy body weight is not only beneficial to their overall success, but to those who look up to them. It’s important for all of us to recognize that everyone has a different body type and the best we can do is lead and healthy and active lifestyle. You must accept that whether you are naturally slender or curvy, you are built just as you should be. Leading a healthy life can improve more than just your figure but your over all well-being. Starving yourself or living off coffee and sugar-water can lead to weakened immune system, hair loss and low energy. In the end, you may drop some weight but you’ll look grey and tired and the compliments will stop coming in.
Don’t ever feel down on your body because you’re comparing yourself to a celebrity. In real life they probably have little sex-appeal because they are all skin and bones. No one likes looking at someone like that and most men will tell you they like their women with more flesh on their body. Changing your perspective of what beauty is can’t happen over night, so hopefully you can take comfort in seeing your favourite stars embracing the body they were given. It’s great to see women that look more like us find success in their field and we hope this trend grows.
