Dear Aunt Mab,
"Michelle Pfieiffer looks incredible at 50, but I'm the same age and feel so frumpy! I wouldn't call myself vain, but these days I spend my whole time looking in the mirror and noticing every line and wrinkle! What is her secret? Is she using some amazing skin cream or has she had some surgery? I've bought expensive creams and now I'm starting to wonder if I should fork out for a 'lift' "

Tricks for ageing fantastically

Think ahead. Make small preparations now for how you expect to look in the next ten years. Gradually start to refine your wardrobe and ditch anything that you don't really love. If you start to think ahead, and make subtle changes each year, you will be able to embrace change with ease rather than with horror!

Don't get a Mom cut! Please! Short hair is more hassle to take care of than longer hair, so only think of shearing off your locks if a short do actually suits you. Do however get a good restyle if you feel that your hair is not quite 'doing it' for you. It's also a good time to rethink your makeup and skin care. There is no miracle cream that is going to make you look younger. Sorry, there just isn't. There is skincare that can make your skin look more radiant and feel nicer. Start to think about the quality of ingredients that you are putting on your skin. Natural companies like Lush and the Body Shop don't cost the Earth either!

Consider letting your grey hairs come in. Oh please, don't look so alarmed! Oprah did a whole feature on it! More and more glamorous women these days realize that their power comes from embracing and accepting their age rather than desperately trying to hold on to the way they looked at 18. A beautifully kept mane of silver will turn more heads than a dried out frizzy hairdo with the roots coming through every two weeks. Silver naturally compliments your skin tone as you get older. If you aren't brave enough to leave it alone, find a really good stylist who can advise you on a flattering color.

Take the focus off your appearance and live a little. I'll bet that Michelle Pfieiffer isn't sitting around worrying about getting older. Take up some activities that inspire you and quite quickly you'll forget your age and so will everyone else!
