Horrible Ideas, With Kim Kardashian
by Ryan Porter
The reality star says the introduction of her family's chimp (yes, CHIMP) wasn't timed to follow the crazed chimp attack in Connecticut.
The upcoming season of
Keeping Up With The Kardashians, sometimes also known as
Who Are These People And Why Are They On My TV?, will co-star Suzy, a chimpanzee who will create a ruckus for the family and adopt
Khloe Kardashian's current position as "the plain sister."
Online commenters were critical of
Kim for posting pics of Suzy to her
blog last week. Not for the no-doubt-stellar artistic content the chimp will bring to
KUWTK, but for irresponsibly championing chimps as pets. The pics were posted a few days after Travis, a trained chimpanzee that starred in films, had gotten loose in Connecticut and shredded its owner's face.
Kim has since apologized that the photos of Suzy were badly timed. "Our family is praying for everyone involved in that traumatizing attack," she wrote. "In no way did I mean to insult or offend anyone by posting these pictures." Suzy is part of a plot on the E! reality show in which the Kardashian sisters rent a monkey in response to their mom nagging them about having kids. High jinks ensue, such as Kim changing the chimpanzee's diaper. Television's golden age, anyone?
Just to seal the argument that the Kardashians are, in fact, useless, Khloe Kardashian is a self-proclaimed animal rights advocate. She appeared naked on a PETA billboard in L.A. last December. The animal advocacy group can't be happy that one of their famewhores is exploiting animals, but it's not unexpected from the Kardashians. Khloe appeared on the PETA billboard just nine months after posing in a fur coat at the Scandanavian Style Mansion party.
So basically the animal rights group is offering wannabe celebs billboard space in exchange for adopting animal-friendly principles instead of choosing representatives who have a history of animal advocacy. Maybe PETA should step-off the
Olsens for a sec and examine what their own advocates are up to.
