Sorry For Hitting Perez... But Not That Sorry
by Ryan Porter
Assault charges against the Black Eyed Peas' manager are dismissed after he formally apologizes for assaulting Perez Hilton. But even the apology's fightin' words.
Liborio "Polo" Molina, the Black Eyed Peas' manager who lived the dream and socked Perez Hilton in the face in Toronto on June 25, has settled his case. Assault charges were dismissed after Polo offered a grudging apology.
His lawyer released this apology to Perez on his client's behalf: "I apologize for what I did on June 22 of 2009, even though you engaged in highly offensive comments, including a homophobic slur to my clients, I acknowledge that these kinds of issues should not be resolved through a physical response." He's also agreed to not contact Perez; not carry weapons for a year; and not frequent the scene of the crime, Cobra Nightclub. Plus he donated $500 to a Toronto shelter.
Perez tweeted this as a response: "I am happy that Liborio Molina has accepted responsibility for his violent actions. I look forward to reading his letter of apology and... he and Will.I.Am can look forward to reading my in-depth thoughts about that awful night in my new book, True Bloggywood Stories, out Dec 1." How beautiful that Perez has found the strength to overcome this horrible abuse and move on with shamelessly plugging himself. Pure elegance and grace, just like "bloggywood."
Polo and Peas singer Will.I.Am had confronted Perez after the MuchMusic Video Awards. The goss-mongerer had trashed the Peas new material, before it went on to set Billboard records, and called Fergie variations on ugly, including but not limited to "tranny Big Bird."
Will.I.Am asked Perez to be respectful, and Perez threw a huge fit and left the party. The argument continued outside with Perez charmingly calling Will.I.Am a "faggot." Then three days later Farrah Fawcett and Michael Jackson died, and nobody cared anymore.
As petty as this feud was in the first place, this apology just shows how much of an image war this was. And the irony is that while they're trying to save face, the world doesn't even care who's degrading who. It's time to move on to what's really important: Peace. Compassion. Tolerance. Fergie's husband befriending strippers. What I call "core values."
